Can Someone please explain to me this new wave of pro-Smiths push.

I have never heard of the guy, and just recently saw Purple Rain like 4 months ago. Que onda with this new push for like wanna be 80s groove. Has this been always like this,

Anyways una buena amiga was like you know many LA radio DJs connect his whaling lyrics to a ranchera song which is why the LA Latino community is pro-Smiths.

Pues whatever reason, here is a little taste of what folks been promoting.
